Phoneography and Non-SLR Digital Devices Photo Challenge – Black and White

SeaTac

Notes: This week our Phoneography Challenge is Black and White. I shot this at SeaTac airport – once again saying goodbye to my kid as he returned to college. I was attracted to the geometry of the space.

Notes: This week our Phoneography Challenge is macro. This is greenery of a western red cedar. I think it looks braided…

Phoneography and Non-SLR Digital Devices Photo Challenge – Nature

tree hanger iphone shot

Notes: This week our Phoneography Challenge is nature. Nearly twenty years ago we tried to hang a hammock between two trees in our back yard. So many years later we can see that the tree has grown around the hanging hardware.

Beautiful construction

spider web close up

Notes: Saved my favorite recent photo for Friday to celebrate the end of the week. I shot this at sunrise along the rocks of the jetty. The spider had made the web like a satellite dish that rested horizontally among the rocks. I took a full shot of the web before I sat to really consider the structure – then I noticed the connective threads. I switched to a manual focus and took this macro of the connective points of a single side of the web. The early sunrise just glinting off the silk web – I could count at least 13 threads for this anchor point. There may be many more. Pretty cool…

Green

Horse Chestnut leaf

Notes: How about a bright green to compliment yesterday’s pink rose? Shot this about a week or so ago – in that short time the garden is starting to turn now with the dry weather. Very little rain will fall now until September. The lawn is already shot. This is as it is every summer…

Mid-week beauty

pink rose in garden

Notes: No words needed really – just a beautiful rose sprinkled by a passing shower. It is wildly scented. The plant was a thank you gift from my son’s kindergarten teacher… many years ago.

Driftwood Orca

Notes: This driftwood sculpted Orca has been a fixture at the local beach since 1994. It appears it recently got a new coat of paint. It must be measurably thicker after all these years and layers of black and white paint. The beach wouldn’t be the same without him. I wonder if he has a name? Do any of the local readers know?

The week ahead

through the view finder

Notes: I shot this through one of those viewfinder things found at lookout points. There is one at the end of the jetty at the local beach. You are looking at buoys that mark the underwater marine park. The far side of the shot is the eastern edge of the Olympic Peninsula. I had to put the camera on manual focus to catch the buoys.

Seems like a good shot for the start of a new work week… I hope to get back to all my usual posts in the next few weeks. This week I will share some local, close to home images.

Phoneography and Non-SLR Digital Devices Photo Challenge – Editing and Processing

altered leaves 1

Notes: This week our Phoneography Challenge is editing and processing. I took the challenge image for macro (June 9th) and played with it in Elements. The first image I over saturated and then applied the screen for lines and only added back a little of the color. The second image I changed the hues entirely to shift the image to cooler shades of green – perhaps more “leaf-like” if you will. The final image I applied the ink drawing screen – and that one might be my favorite. Enjoy.

Phoneography and Non-SLR Digital Devices Photo Challenge – Objects

The Pie Maker Galway

Notes: I have selected an object for this week’s Phoneography Challenge. One lucky evening we found this cozy warm cafe called The Pie Maker in Galway. It was a tiny little shop with perhaps four tables and one very hard working woman who created and baked all the pies on her menu. I had a delicious curry pie with a cup of tea in this wonderful custom pottery cup. I also had mushy peas… *smile*
